Gian Maria Zaccaria, Ph.D.

Research technologist

Gian Maria Zaccaria is a First-Level Technologist at the Electrical and Information Engineering Department of Polytechnic University of Bari (DEI-POLIBA). His academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Università Politecnica delle Marche (2007), a Master’s degree in the same field from the Polytechnic University of Turin (2010), a second-level Master’s in E-Business and ICT for Management (2011), and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering and Health Sciences (2018), completed jointly at the Polytechnic and University of Turin following an observational visit at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, USA.

Since November 2025, he has been involved within the PNRR Complementary D34H project. His primary research focuses on the application of artificial intelligence to medical imaging, with expertise in radiomics, radiogenomics, bioinformatics, and multi-omics data integration. Through these domains, he investigates multimodal data fusion to develop predictive and prognostic models in precision medicine.

His research also focused on developing data platforms for multicenter studies and biobanking in oncohematologic diseases. He collaborates with the Hematology Unit of the IRCCS Istituto Tumori “Giovanni Paolo II” in Bari and the Italian Lymphoma Foundation (FIL).
