Antonio Brunetti is a junior assistant professor (fixed term) at the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Bari. He received the Bachelor’s Degree, in computer science and automation engineering, and the Master’s Degree (cum laude), in Computer Science Engineering, at the Polytechnic University of Bari. His final dissertation in Human-Computer Interaction concerned the design and implementation of an intelligent system able to adapt the living environment of subjects with mild cognitive impairment based on cognitive analyses based on event-related potentials measured on the EEG signal stimulated via an innovative protocol based on Virtual Reality.
Since December 2015 to October 2016, he was a Research Fellow at the Polytechnic University of Bari working on the GCESYS – “Green Community Efficiency Systems” project, working on designing and developing optimization algorithms applied to energy consumption scheduling in smart buildings with systems fueled by mixed traditional and renewable sources.
In February 2020, he got the PhD degree in Electrical and Information Engineering at the Doctoral School of the Polytechnic University of Bari. Under the supervision of Prof. Vitoantonio Bevilacqua, his PhD thesis dealt with the design and implementation of Intelligent Frameworks, based on Image Processing, Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms, for supporting clinical diagnosis in the Precision Medicine Era.
From April 2020 to December 2021, he was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow working on research activities in the fields of Electronic and Informatics Bioengineering, and Bioinformatics.
Some of his professional experience includes several collaborations at the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering (DEI) of the Polytechnic University of Bari, where he worked on the design and development of intelligent algorithms for biomedical image and signal processing, working on several research projects, such as RESCAP – “Residual Capabilities” (LINK), PRE.C.I.O.U.S. – “PREdictive Computer aIded scOring sUpport System” (LINK) and Recall (LINK).
He also had several collaborations on contracts from external companies, such as PRE.MED – “PREdictive MEDicine” project, where he has to design and develop an operating environment for the extraction and processing of morphological features of patients affected by Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) and to validate the diagnostic classification framework (LINK), or COMAU Robot Company.
In March 2019, he founded Apulian Bioengineering Srl, a spin-off company of the Polytechnic of Bari, as a shareholder (http://www.apulianbioengineering.com).
He teaches Healthcare Information Systems for the Master’s Degree in Medical Systems Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Bari (since a.y. 2019/20) and Electronic and Informatics Bioengineering for the Bachelor’s Degrees in Audiometric Techniques, Audioprosthetic Techniques, Neurophysiopathology Techniques (since a.y. 2019/20 to date) and Cardiocirculatory and Cardiovascular Perfusion Techniques (a.y. 2019/20 and 2020/21) at the Medical School of the University of Bari.
