Elena Sibilano, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor

Elena Sibilano is a junior assistant professor (fixed-term) at the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Bari. She received the B.Sc. degree (cum laude) in 2019 and the M.Sc. degree (cum laude) in 2021 in Medical Systems Engineering from Politecnico di Bari, Bari, Italy. Her master’s thesis focused on the development of Deep Learning algorithms to classify EEG signals for early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. The work was supervised by Prof. Vitoantonio Bevilacqua, Prof. Antonio Brunetti and Prof. Alberto Mazzoni from the BioRobotics Institute at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pisa.

In December 2024, she got her PhD degree in Electrical and Information Engineering at the Doctoral School of the Polytechnic University of Bari. Under the supervision of Prof. Vitoantonio Bevilacqua, her PhD dissertation dealt with advanced computational approaches for the decoding of neurodegenerative disease based of EEG signals. In 2024, she has been a visiting PhD Student at the Department of Data Analysis at Ghent University, Belgium, under the supervision of Prof. Daniele Marinazzo.

Since April 2025, she is involved in the research project “Sistema Integrato Sanitario per le malattie GEnetiche CARDIOvascolari” (SISAGEN-CARDIO), with the aim of  identifying new markers for early diagnosis, therapeutic monitoring, and prediction of drug response in genetic cardiovascular diseases through integrated research in omics sciences.

Her main research interests include neurodegenerative diseases, Deep Learning and Medical Imaging.
